Bittersweet Second Chance by daniellaanddaphne

Summary: What if your second chance comes 10 years later on,will you grab it for love or let go for loyalty? Faberry, Pezberry
Rating: T
Status: Complete - 20 Chapters

I had and continue to have mixed feelings about this story. It may very well be because I tend to like when sentences flow smoothly and I’m also super picky about constant word repitition. If you read it you’ll see what I mean. However, the general concept of it all was good. The author obviously had an idea, a visual if you will and did what she could to share it with her readers. The pace was a bit sporadic, the character portrayal wasn’t always, for lack of a better term, believable but it had its good moments. I think the most genric part was the conversation that causes Rachel to ponder her feelings in the first place. To be quite honest, I rather enjoyed the reactions Rachel had due to that confusion. This story may not be for everyone but I managed to stick through it.

Overall Rating: I give this two cups of coffee out of five

The Sound of Your Heart by insaneantics21

Summary:
AU: Rachel has practically been living in a bubble her entire life. Thanks to her numerous allergies she’s rarely allowed outside. When she’s eight she makes her first real friend but there’s more than just Rachel’s back yard fence standing in their way.
Rating: T
Status:
Complete - 3 Chapters

I know we sometimes read stories and forget what they were called, recall scattered tidbits hoping someone can help or that if we think hard enough we’ll remember, but this story is so unique and so innovative that I know I won’t ever forget it. It’s so pure it kind of reminds me of a fairytale. You’ve got an almost angelic like character, a challenge, a battle and a happy ending. I can’t place it under one genre because I feel that the whole story is balanced. There isn’t an abundant amount of unnecessary detail. You’re told what you need to know and that’s it. Everything else falls in place and what can I say? It’s heart-warming. Quinn and Rachel are about as in character as they can be at the young age the story starts off at and once they hit adulthood the AU factor really kicks in. Rachel Berry isn’t the Rachel Berry you’re used to seeing or reading about considering her circumstance but I was able to overlook that simply because the story in itself was marvelous.

Overall Rating: I give this story 4 jars of captured fireflies out of 5

Sulkygeek is where you go to find your pot of Faberry angst

Click here to re-route to journal
Ratings: Vary but are usually in the R area.

When I first introduced myself to Faberry fanficition I avoided the angst genre like the plague. I guess I was just weak-hearted or maybe it was because many of them just piled on the heavy stuff without a logical explanation or at least an attempt at one but then I found sulkygeeks fanfics and rather than leaving me like this:

She left me like this:

Pure angst with an actual plot. Surprisingly so, for most of them, you’re left feeling some sense of relief. Even if throughout most of it your heart is threatening to drop out of your mouth. The one that sucked me in was Maneuvering Landmines. Lengthy, heart-wrenching and beautiful all at once. The summary may be a dealbreaker for some but if you’re looking for realistic suspense, twists and turns you may just land a goldmine.

Overall Rating: There aren’t enough pictures, symbols or words for me to rate her stories!

Just A Kiss by TheSilentPen

Click here to re-route to story
Summary: ‘Lucy… can I kiss you? ’ The day before she moves to California, Rachel Berry saves and kisses Lucy Fabray out of pity. Several years later, Rachel returns to Lima and has forgotten about the kiss and Lucy. But Lucy hasn’t.
Rating: T

I honestly have not given very many stories with the “Lucy” storyline a shot but the author of this particular work, I feel, does a great job including it. Rachel Berry does kiss Lucy but I’m not so sure pity describes why. It’s definitely not a kiss out of love or some desperation for courage. Rachel’s just an eighth grader who knows what it’s like to be in those shoes and commits one final act of kindness before leaving everything behind. It’s actually quite endearing. A child who doesn’t question the right-wrong of showing someone affection, showing they care, in such an innocent way. There’s no gay-straight label, there’s really not to much thought behind it period. Life goes on and as we’ve all probably noticed certain things fall to the back of our minds while others resonate more strongly and Rachel Berry has had to much happen in her life to really contemplate what she did in her younger years. Whereas, that one simple act change Lucy Fabray and while she does remember she still fell toward the Quinn we’ve seen on the show. It’ll be interesting to read why as the story goes on. Now, Rachel is pretty out of character as a teenager in this story BUT it’s easily understandable if you pay attention to her home life and how much its really affected her. It’s not always easy being a go-lucky girl if underneath it all, all you feel is letdown and confused.

Overall Rating: I give this story 4 sets of unforgettable hazel eyes out 5

Beauty in the Breakdown by disconnectedsoul

Click here to re-route to story
Summary: Rachel’s having a hard time. It’s not easy being a teenage girl, especially when you’re in love with your best friend’s mom. Rachel/Quinn, Rachel/Beth friendship
Status: Work in Progress - 9 Chapters
Rating: M

-Ah, the beauty of a well thought out drama. Can you imagine being in love with your best friend’s mom? because I honestly can’t. The inner conflict that is bound to occur in a situation like that would be overwhelming. But like I said drama if you like it, then you should give this story a shot. Beth’s character is the kind of friend I’m sure anyone could want: loyal, attentive and direct. She seems to be a nice little mix of both her parents. Rachel is what you’d expect from a teenager in that position still a little naive but that’s to be expected. My only complaint is that it seems to rush a little to quickly into Quinn’s feelings toward Rachel. She is, after all, the adult and although she goes through her own thoughts and questioning she doesn’t really contemplate what she’s doing as much as the teenager she’s got her eyes on. However, this is a work of fiction so I’m not expecting 100% realism but I do enjoy when things trangress naturally.

Overall rating: I’m giving this story 3 burnt popcorn bags out 5

The Mistakes That Lead Me To You by passionatelysimple

Click here to re-route to story
Summary: Sometimes the person that knocked you up isn’t the one you end up with. Mostly AU, except for the pregnancy. Rachel/Quinn, Rachel/Puck Friendship.
Status: Work in Progress - 19 chapters.

-Sometimes it’s hard sticking through stories when you know what you should be getting but you have to wait. In this case: it’s for the Faberry romance but remember good things take time and this story is a perfect example of that. The Mistakes That Lead Me To You transitions rather slowly but up until now I’ve managed to stick with it because I think each of the main characters is wonderfully written. If you enjoying picturing the things that are occuring than the author does a great job of making that task easier. Puck is his usual badboy self with the right dash of depth. Rachel isn’t the typical what you see is what you get girl but her reasoning behind the things she does, wears and says stays true to the original. While Quinn is her usual shut-off, hostile self expect it isn’t because she’s got some underlying crush on Rachel Berry. This isn’t a: “I’ve loved you since I saw you” or “I bully you because I can’t admit my feelings” type of story and frankly I’m looking forward to seeing just how this romance blossoms. I know it says it AU but don’t let that scare you off. If you like steady paced developments this is for you.

Overall rating: As of now this story is getting five persistent Rachel Berry’s out of five.

I Can See For Miles by ElsBells

Click here to re-route to story
Summary:
Ensemble fic with Faberry. Rachel is blind but holds out hope for this summer for other reasons than the Florida road trip the Glee Club is embarking on. “Rachel. I will be your guide.” Quinn stated sagely. Rachel chuckled. “What?”
Status: Complete - 11 chapters.

-There are three words I have to sum up this story: Short, simple and sweet. Just as the summary states the glee clubbers will be embarking on a roadtrip to Florida and well mishaps are bound to occur in a group of inexperienced teenagers. We’ve got mailbox destruction, power outages, uncontrollable hair and a cat on the prowl. But what I really enjoyed about this fanfic is the fact that there is no preferential treatment toward one character more than the other. They’re all, very them. There’s no over-dramatic confessions of love or sulking when the love is finally discovered. It’s pretty organic and enjoyable to the very end. ElsBells does a great job putting her own little twist to each person based on the personalities we’ve seen on the show. I strongly recommend this to anyone who’s looking for some fluff and laughs.

Overall rating: I’m giving this story five raccoon’s jumping out of the fireplace out five.

-you’ll just have to read to see what I mean ;)
